In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to introduce the impact players rule to the IPL 2023. The news was surfaced by IPL's official Twitter handle.

Here's what the tweet read

"From the Tata IPL 2023 season, a tactical concept will be introduced to add a new dimension to the IPL, wherein one substitute player per team will be able to take a more active part in an IPL match."

Earlier, the BCCI had implemented the tactic in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to make the format exciting.

According to this rule, the teams must announce four substitutes or impact players at the toss, out of whom they can use only one during the match.

Furthermore, the substitution can replace any member of the starting XI at any point before the end of the 14th over of either inning and can bat and bowl his full quota of overs.

Here's what BCCI had said to the state units

"With the ever-growing popularity of T20 cricket, it is imperative that we look at introducing new dimensions which will make this format more attractive and interesting not only for our viewers but also the participating teams from a strategic viewpoint,

"The BCCI would like to introduce the concept of ‘Impact Player’ wherein participating teams could replace one member of its playing XI during a T20 match based on the context of the game."

Meanwhile, a whopping 991 players have registered for the IPL mini-auction scheduled on December 23 in Kochi.
