Veteran Australia batter Steve Smith was seen at his absolute best as he hammered a flawless double hundred, propelling Australia to a towering total in the first Test against West Indies.

The gritty batter equalled the century tally of the legendary Donald Bradman in this process, earning accolades from all around the world.

However, despite being in exquisite form, Smith has cast doubts over his longevity. In the aftermath of his marathon knock, the New South Wales-born revealed his on-field struggles with muscular pain.

With age catching him up, Smith didn't seem confident about keep playing for good four-five more years and breaking Ricky Ponting's record of 41 Test centuries.

Here's what Smith said

"My hips, I‘m struggling right now. It doesn’t like being in any position when I’m bending or 90-degrees where I am at right now (sitting in the press conference). It‘s not very comfortable to be honest with you. Standing at slips is interesting at the moment. I was walking in with the bowler tonight, which is something I probably wouldn’t ordinarily do in the slips, but you’ve got to adapt to how your body is,

“I’m 33, 34 next year – not sure how long I’ll play for. We’ll see. But 41 (the Australian record for Test centuries) is still a long way away."

Meanwhile, as of writing, West Indies are 89 for one in response to Australia's first innings total of 598.
