In a significant development, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has joined Perth Scorchers ahead of the Big Bash League starting next month.

Faf has been drafted into the squad as a replacement for Laurie Evans, who the franchises parted ways with after he returned positive in a dope test.

In his reaction, Du Plessis expressed his excitement to join the four-time champions and seemed determined to guide the team to glory in the upcoming season.

Here's what Du Plessis stated

“I’m really excited to be signing with Perth Scorchers. I think the first thing that jumps to mind is that Perth are four-time champions, which is very impressive. Any player who plays around the world wants to win competitions, so it’s a great franchise to be part of,

“I’m also keen to come in and learn. I think it’s important to learn from other people and organisations, and find out why they’re successful. I’m also excited to share my experiences and the things I’ve learned, and hopefully that can be a great combination."

Faf has a plethora of experience in the shortest format, having participated in T20 leagues across the globe. After serving the Chennai Super Kings with distinction, the former Proteas skipper joined Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2022.

The Scorchers will play their opening game against the Sydney Sixers in Perth on December 17.
