Big call for him: David Warner on Cameron Green's participation in the IPL

The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini-auction is expected to showcase fierce bidding for players like Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, Jason Holder, and Cameron Green. Amongst them all, Green is most likely to break the bank seeing his recent exploits for Australia.

Green, who confirmed his participation in the auction, will have to guide himself through a jam-packed season of Australian cricket, which includes the India Test tour, an Ashes series in England, the ICC World Cup 2023, and a few bilateral as well, apart from the IPL.

Australian teammate, David Warner has expressed concerns over Green's workload given the amount of cricket scheduled in the coming season. The 23-year-old has been plagued with back injuries in the past.

Warner,  a household name in the IPL, speaking to The Age said playing a whole season of IPL and then international cricket can be rather taxing even for experienced players.

“Nineteen weeks straight in India, being your first trip there as well, can be quite challenging - from the heat perspective, the playing, the recovery.

From a youngster’s point of view it’s totally up to him, it’s his decision to make. For the longevity of him and his career, it’s a big call for him as a youngster. Whatever decision he goes with we’ll respect it as players. But ultimately, it’s down to him and CA.”

Green is likely to be in action against West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series starting Wednesday.
