Mark Wood ruled out of the first Test against Pakistan due to injury

In an unfortunate turn of events, ace English speedster Mark Wood has been ruled out of the first Test against Pakistan due to a hip injury. Recently, Wood missed England's knock out fixtures in the T20 World Cup owing to muscle stiffness and was replaced by Chris Jordan. 

Despite being an extremely talented bowler, Wood has failed to secure his place in the England team due to frequent injury setbacks. He had recently recovered from an elbow injury and played in the T20I series in Pakistan with the utmost success, scalping six wickets at a stunning economy of 5.50 in two outings. 

Being an express fast bowler, Wood could have emerged as England's trump card on the batting-friendly decks of Pakistan. The 32-year-old does reverse the ball, which is why he could've troubled the Pakistani batters with the old ball. As England don't have an express pacer in their squad, they might draft someone like Olly Stone as Wood's replacement.
