In the Quarterfinal clash against Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scripted history by hitting seven sixes in an over.
The Chennai Super Kings opener completed the milestone against UP's left-arm spinner Shiva Singh in the 49th over of the innings, where he first smashed four successive maximums on as many legal deliveries before the tweaker over-stepped to get tonked for another six, following it with two more biggies.

In the same over against the young spinner, the India batter also completed his double hundred on a free-hit delivery. This was Gaikwad's maiden double ton, and he finished with a score of 220* off 159 deliveries.
Apart from that, the 25-year-old also equalled Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Soumya Sarkar and Jaskaran Malhotra to become the third-joint-highest six-hitter in an innings in List-A cricket.
He is now behind D'Arcy Short and the former English skipper Eoin Morgan in the list of hitting the most maximums in an over in List-A cricket. Short launched 23 maximums in an innings in 2018, while Morgan did that wonder in the World Cup 2019 against Afghanistan.
Gaikwad also broke Alauddin Babu’s nine-year record of scoring the most runs in an over in a List-A game. The previous best was 39 runs scored a game in Dhaka in the 2013-14 season.
New Zealand’s Lee Germon once hit eight sixes in an over in a first-class affair back in 1990. However, that isn’t regarded as a professional game.
Coming to what happened in the contest, Maharashtra notched a mighty total of 330/5 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. It was quite literally a one-person show, as no other batter, apart from Gaikwad, could even score 40 runs.
