In a remarkable turn of events, Afghanistan have earned a place at the 2023 World Cup. Afghanistan gained five crucial points and took their tally to 115 in the World Cup Super League points table after the second ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka was called off due to a persistent downpour. Thus, the Afghans sealed their World Cup berth with one game still to go.

On the other hand, a threat looms on Sri Lanka's participation, as they are placed tenth with only 67 points in 20 matches. They have four ODIs left in the cycle, which they must win in order to dethrone West Indies from the eighth position. However, it won't be a cakewalk for the Lankans, as three of the four games will be against New Zealand.

Similarly, South Africa are also doubtful of a direct entry into the World Cup, being placed eleventh with 59 points in 16 outings. They have five matches left (three against England and two against the Netherlands) in the Super League cycle and must win these games to confirm their World Cup participation.

In another development, New Zealand have overtaken Australia, progressing to the third spot in the standings, courtesy of the five points they got from the washed-out fixture against India in Hamilton on Sunday. India continue to reign at the top with 134 points, while England are placed second with 125 points.
