"Playing indoors would be difficult, but having a roof would be good," Shubman Gill makes bold claims

The second ODI between New Zealand and India was washed out. Not only that, with that Men in Blue's hopes to bag the series have gone as the Black Caps will be heading to Christchurch with a 1-nil lead in the series.

Shubman Gill has been one bright hope for the Shikhar Dhawan-led boys in this series throughout. In the first two games, he has scored a half-century and an unbeaten 45, while the young opener is averaging 78.1 after playing 11 ODIs this year.

However, the 23-year-old wasn't too pleased with the conditions offered in Hamilton due to the rain and stated he was in for a big score to level the series for India - but that couldn't happen.

While talking to the media post the 2nd match, Gill stated: "It was very frustrating (as the rain was pouring down, and as the overs were cutting short, it was getting irritating (for us). (Due to the rain) We weren't sure about how many overs will we get, thus, planning our approach was difficult.

"I was in a good knick in the last match as well, and today also, I would have tried to go for a big score - that was what I was told in the team meeting prior to the game."

During the press conference, the Punjab batter was asked about how he thinks if the caravan shifts indoors during a rain-hindered affair. Answering that, he said playing indoors would be difficult, but rains surely hamper a player's concentration.

"That is one decision that has to be taken by the boards," he commented. "As a player, obviously it's very irritating to go in and out and have so many games being affected by rain, but I don't know how I can make a difference."

"Playing indoors would be difficult, but having a roof would be good."

In the absence of the senior players, youngsters like Gill are getting regular chances, and he surely is taking full advantage of it. Due to that, there has been a buzz created in the media for him bagging a spot in India's squad for the World Cup 2023 scheduled in India.
