Former Australian pacer, Glenn McGrath has backed Pat Cummins' decision to skip the IPL 2023 season.

Cummins recently announced that he wanted to focus on the World Cup next year and the Ashes and as a result of the hectic schedule has decided to miss the IPL.

Speaking to AAP,  McGrath stated that Test cricket should be Cummins' priority and he has made the right decision by backing out of the IPL as it is important for the pace bowlers to manage their workload.

Test cricket is the real deal

"Cummo has come out and said that he is not going to the IPL. That's where you have your off season, get strong and get through your next season. If you never do that, you are a car that never refuels. Sooner or later you are going to get run-out. Fast bowlers need to have a bit of off season because bowling and running depletes your sttength," McGrath said.

He added: "You don't want to devalue the Big Bash, but you have to weigh up what is important. Playing for Australia should still be-all and end-all. Test cricket is still the ultimate."

Cummins' next assignment is a 2-match Test series against West Indies. The first Test match starts on November 30.
