On Friday, New Zealand and Afghanistan handed crushing ODI defeats to India and Sri Lanka, respectively. While the Kiwis swatted aside India by seven wickets in Auckland, Afghanistan trounced the Lankan Lions by 60 runs in Pallekele.

These stunning wins gained New Zealand and Afghanistan ten crucial points, leading to their progress in the Cricket World Cup Super League (CWCSL) points table. While the Blackcaps moved from sixth to fourth place, Afghanistan reinforced their seventh position, increasing their lead to 22 points from the eighth-placed West Indies.

India (129 points), the hosts of the 2023 World Cup, continue to reign at the top, followed by England (125 points). Meanwhile, a four-team tussle is going on between Australia, New Zealand and the two South-Asian rivals, Bangladesh and Pakistan, for the fifth spot, with each stranded at 120 points.

On the other hand, West Indies and Sri Lanka are placed eighth and tenth, respectively, with Ireland sandwiched between them in the standings. However, surprisingly, South Africa occupy the eleventh position with only 59 points in 16 matches and would like to win their remaining games to ensure a direct qualification for the showpiece event.
