In a remarkable turn of events, ace New Zealand paceman Tim Southee has completed 200 wickets in ODI cricket. Southee attained this milestone in the first ODI of the three-match series against India in Auckland.

Southee, who opened the bowling for the Kiwis, removed stand-in India captain Shikhar Dhawan to become the fifth New Zealand bowler to enter the 200-wicket club in the 50-over format.

Most ODI wickets for New Zealand

  • Daniel Vettori - 297 wickets in 273 innings
  • Kyle Mills - 240 wickets in 169 innings
  • Chris Harris - 203 wickets in 232 innings
  • Chris Cairns - 200 wickets in 185 innings
  • Tim Southee - 200 wickets in 147 innings

Southee has established himself as a vital cog in New Zealand's ODI setup since debuting in England. Regarded as one of the best swing bowlers going around, the 33-year-old has proved his mettle in the other two formats, scalping 347 and 134 wickets in Tests and T20Is, respectively. Furthermore, he recently had a stellar T20 World Cup campaign, picking seven wickets at an incredible economy of 6.57.
