The experienced all-rounder, Ashleigh Gardner was named WBBL 2022 Player of the Tournament for her terrific performances. In this process, she became the first Australian to win this award since the 2018 season.

Gardner polled 33 votes to eclipse the talented Amelia Kerr (25 votes), Beth Mooney, Striker Megan Schutt (both 21 votes) and Sixers captain Ellyse Perry (20 votes).

She has been the best performer for the Sydney Sixers in the 2022 season. She slammed 339 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 153.39 and scalped 23 wickets at an economy of 6.42.

During the tournament, Gardner became the first player to score 25+ runs and take three wickets thrice in a single edition of the WBBL as well.

Gardner's performances with the ball came at a time when the Sixers needed the wickets in crunch moments. Her composure and terrific ball-striking abilities helped the team to recover from early setbacks and post strong totals on the board.

After receiving the award, Gardner expressed her delight to contribute in both departments, especially with the ball.

Ashleigh Gardner statement

"Feel like my game has gone to another level which is really exciting.

"More so with the ball, taking wickets consistently is something I haven't been able to do and ultimately have confidence in my bowling."

The 25-year-old will look to continue her rich performances and help Sixers secure their third WBBL title, when they face Adelaide Strikers in the final on Sunday.
