Jofra Archer signed by MI Cape Town as Wildcard Pick for inaugural SA20 season

The big development coming from South Africa is that MI Cape Town have snapped up Jofra Archer as their WildCard pick for the first season of the SA20 League to be held in January 2023.

It is to be noted that Archer has been out of cricket for a good part of 2021 and entirety of 2022 and expected to return early next year. Laid low by elbow injury, he endured further setback after suffering from four stress fractures. 

The right-armer, however, has returned to training with England Lions squad in warm-up game against the premier English side in UAE where he was found lethal hitting opener Zak Crawley on the helmet.

The 27-year-old is currently a part of Mumbai Indians setup in the IPL where he missed the last season but still has been retained. While the 8 Crore pick is still an uncertainty, the franchise has played another gamble on the him by signing the express pacer for South Africa's premier tournament.

Moreover, it is also being speculated that the Barbados-born could be returning to international cricket during the series against South Africa which will happen during ending January.

MI Cape Town already boasts of a high-quality line-up which includes the likes of Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, Olly Stone and Rassie van der Dussen.

In another news, Sunrisers Eastern Cape have signed uncapped Jordan Hermann as their Wildcard pick.
