Laurie Evans denies taking banned substances despite positive dope test

England-based T20 veteran Laurie Evans has denied any wrongdoing after emerging with a positive dope test. Traces of banned substance were found in his sample, which the cricketer had provided during this year’s The Hundred season.

Evans has been a standout T20 performer in the English domestic circuit for the past few years. An outright T20 freelancer in leagues across the world, the cricketer made his presence felt in the 2022 Hundred season for the Manchester Originals. He also plays for the Perth Scorchers in Australia’s Big Bash League.

Laurie Evans says he believes in clean sport

The 35-year-old underwent a routine anti-doping test during this year’s The Hundred season in England. The explosive batter expressed his shock after the results had found traces of banned substance in his sample.

The Surrey cricketer said:

“I was shocked to be told that an anti-doping sample I provided in August 2022 tested positive for trace amounts of a banned substance.”

He added that he believes playing a “clean sport” and had never taken any banned substance.

“I believe passionately in clean sport and I have never taken any banned substances. I do not know what caused the positive test but my team and I are investigating how this could have happened and I am doing everything possible to find out.”

Meanwhile, the Surrey Cricket Club stated that they are in constant touch with Evans regarding his positive doping test. In an official statement, the club confirmed that the cricketer is indeed investigating the anti-doping result.
