Adelaide Strikers secured a 26-run victory over Sydney Thunder in Match 56 of the Women's Big Bash League 2022 on Sunday. 


Strikers post a competitive total 

Batting first, the Strikers were off to a bad start as Katie Mack (9) and Tahlia McGrath (1) were dismissed early. 

However, Laura Wolvaardt was terrific with her ball-striking abilities, while also getting the support of Deandra Dottin (23). 

In the end, Madeline Penna remained unbeaten on 18 off 27 and Wolvaardt slammed 75 off 56 balls to help Strikers post a total of 144 on the board. Hannah Darlington was the pick of the bowlers for Thunder with two scalps. 


Megan Schutt steals the Thunder

Although Chloe Tryon (22) did well, she along with others fell to the brilliance of Megan Schutt as she became the first bowler to take a six-wicket haul in the history of WBBL. The right-arm pacer run rampant to finish with figures of 6/19 in 3.3 overs. As a result, Thunder were dismissed for 118, and lost by 26 runs.



Tammy Beaumont was terrific to give a blazing start with contribution of 37 off 27 for the Thunder. However, the experience campaigners like Amy Jones (4) and Rachael Haynes (10) could not get the team a stability at the other end. 

With this win, the Strikers qualified for the playoffs and will next be seen in the Challenger fixture on Thursday.
