Big bucks player: Dinesh Karthik heaps praise on Shubman Gill

Dinesh Karthik thinks Shubman Gill has displayed his class and ability over the years and is worthy of playing for India across all formats.

Gill made his ODI debut in 2019 and has slammed 579 runs in 12 innings at a prolific average of 57.90. He has the same number of runs in the Test format in 11 appearances, since making his Test debut in 2020. 

However, the 23-year-old has not yet made his T20I debut for the Indian team.  It is his Indian Premier League performance, which has helped him to be named to the T20I squad for the New Zealand series. 

Gill's scores in the IPL 2020 and 2021 for Kolkata Knight Riders are read as 440 and 478. In the 2022 edition, he slammed 483 runs at an average of 34.50 and helped Gujarat Titans lift the title. 

In this regard, Karthik thinks Gill has been a standout player in the IPL, and something great is expected out of him for India in the shortest format. 

“No praise is enough for him for the fact that we always highlight and speak about. It shows that we expect something big out of him. He is a big bucks player for the Gujarat Titans and he showed his mettle."

Along with Gill, the likes of Umran Malik, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be the key players to watch out in the T20I series against the Kiwi team. 

After the first T20I was washed out due to rain, the second game will be played on Sunday (November 20).
