Jon Lewis announced England women's head coach

Former cricketer Jon Lewis has been named as England women's head coach on Friday (November 18).  He has beaten the likes of Brisbane Heat coach Ashley Noffke and his namesake, Jon Lewis, the former Durham head coach. 

Lewis featured for England across all formats in 16 matches and picked 25 wickets. In the domestic circuit, the skilful pacer played for Gloucestershire, Surrey and Sussex and bagged over 1200 wickets. The 2014 season saw Lewis making his final appearance in the competitive circuit. 

The 47-year-old  has been serving as the ECB’s Elite Pace Bowling Coach since 2021, while working with the red and white-ball teams. He also was the head coach of the Young Lions team. 

Lewis' first assignment will be the tour to the West Indies, which will consist of 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. Then, the Three Lionesses will be seen in action in the T20 World Cup slated to be played in February in South Africa. 

The T20I and ODI squads which are still due to announce for the West Indies Tour can see Heather Knight and Nat Sciver making their comeback. 

Speaking on his appointment, Lewis expressed his excitement for his new journey and thinks their prime focus would be getting important points in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25.

“It’s very exciting to have been appointed as Head Coach of the England Women’s team. It’s a new challenge and one that I can’t wait to get stuck into.

“Our immediate focus is the West Indies, and particularly getting some points on the board in the ICC Women’s Championship, and then we’ll look ahead to South Africa and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.”
