Former South African captain AB de Villiers believes the Royal Challengers Bangalore could win a flurry of IPL titles if they manage to bag their first one. The star batter joined the RCB camp in 2011 and was part of the franchise for the subsequent 11 seasons.

The cricketer left the team following the conclusion of IPL 2021; however, he is set to make a return to the franchise in some capacity. AB de Villiers recently visited India and confirmed his return to the RCB camp ahead of the 2023 edition of the tournament.

AB de Villiers backs RCB to break the shackles soon

The South African batting legend recently interacted with Star Sports, where he talked about RCB’s title drought in IPL. He claimed that the franchise might win three to four trophies in a short space of time if they manage to get their hands on their maiden IPL title.

The legendary cricketer also claimed that the RCB camp would love to break the shackles, considering they have spent 15 years in the tournament without winning a trophy. He said:

“It’s been how many seasons now? Quite a few, 14 or 15 or whatever. So, they would love to break the shackles. I think if RCB wins this one then, they’ll probably win two, three, four quickly but let’s wait and see what happens.”

AB de Villiers was recently inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame, alongside T20 barbarian Chris Gayle.

The former South African batsman praised the RCB franchise and stated that his extensive stay at their camp changed his life.

Meanwhile, the RCB retained several of their star players for the IPL 2023 season. Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik were among the notable retentions made by the franchise.
