The Women's Hundred is all set to introduce a player draft ahead of next season's competition. The new system will be conducted in conjunction with the men's draft next year.

It will replace the existing salary cap for the 8 women's team, with at-least 32 domestic and overseas players to be picked.

Welsh Fire, who finished at the last position in the 2022 season will be given the first selection, while Oval Invincibles, the reigning champions will have the last go.

As per the new rules, each team will retain upto four players from their existing squad, when the window opens in December.

The teams will be permitted to use one 'right to match card' if they wish to retain the player who had been on their books for 2022, as long as they have a place available in their squad at the same salary band.

While only four players can be retained, the remaining seven players will be signed on the open market ahead of the new season. However, there is a limit of three centrally contracted England players and three overseas players throughout the process.

Heather Knight, the England and London Spirit captain believes it is a ground-breaking news for the Hundred competition.

"We've already talked about this as a playing group. It is really exciting and we've seen in the men's competition that drafts really get people discussing and debating selection, so it's great that the women's game will be a part of that same debate," Knight stated.
