As expected, the first T20I of the three-match series between India and New Zealand has been abandoned due to rain. Two top-tier teams were all set to clash in Wellington, and the fans from both sides were also excited to witness this riveting battle. However, the weather Gods had other ideas, as the officials eventually called off the match due to a persistent downpour.

As a result, the series has now been reduced to only two games. The second T20I will be played in Mount Maunganui on Sunday (November 20), while the decider is scheduled at the McLean Park in Napier on Tuesday (November 22).

This series holds paramount importance for India, serving as the stepping stone for India's preparations for the next T20 World Cup in 2024. The marquee players, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin are rested, with Hardik Pandya leading the team in the T20Is.

A three-match ODI series between the two teams is scheduled just after the T20Is from November 25 to 30. Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan will don the skipper's hat in that series.
