How long will Punjab Kings keep shooting arrows in the dark?

What's with the color red and never winning an IPL title, you'll have to ask that an RCB or PBKS fan. Both franchises are ladened with superstars but the payout has never been satisfying.

However, the team under scrutiny here is Punjab Kings formerly known as Kings XI Punjab. People say that some things change with time and people adapt to their mistakes, but on thing that hasn't changed since 2007 in Punjab Kings going on a shopping spree anytime a marquee name pops up.

The years I've spend watching the auction time and again, there is one thing that always remains with me when I think about the Punjab Kings, their paddle is always up doesn't matter the name, need, requirement, combination, it's like the franchise keeps shooting arrows in the dark one after another and hope that it hits the mark.

With a second highest sum in their purse, Punjab are once again ready to go all guns blazing as always and I'm here to tell you what could go wrong, once again!

The "Massive Impact" Shahrukh Khan brings to PBKS

Punjab Kings will step to the auction table with a hefty ₹ 32.20 crores in their wallet and by no means that amount of money is a small amount, compare it to ₹ 23.35 boasted by the third placed Lucknow Super Giants, the Kings will be feeling comfortable with the money in their wallet.

However, when you have easily gone into the auction with ₹ 41.20 crores in your wallet ₹ 32.20 crores indeed feels like a meagre amount, thats the massive impact Shahrukh Khan brings to the franchise, ₹ 9 crores!!

If IPL seasons are remembered for memorable moments, IPL 2022 will be remembered for overpriced players and their lacklustre performances. Shahrukh Khan in all my honesty in no condition worth ₹ 9 crores, even if TNPL host an auction someday.

Most Suitable Fit: For ₹ 9 crores, the franchise could have put a finger in the all-rounder's category and bought any name, that how disappointed I'm with the Kings who believe it was a good decision to retain the player.

The middle order instability followed by zero depth

There are few things that don't just sit right, while Punjab do have some great batters present in their unit with Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan and Jitesh Sharma.

Let me point out some obvious flaws, the only way if Bairstow, Livingstone and Rajapaksa can take to the field together is if the franchise sacrifices their bowling unit and miss out on additional one overseas bowler or allrounder.

To fix this the team needs a good middle order batter who can provide the much needed additional strength to their batting order. There are some good names that can fit into the mold and provide the much needed stability to their batting depth.

Most Suitable Fit: There are many names from the Indian batter pool that can fit into the squad but a few names that stand out from the rest are Gurkeerat Singh, Priyam Garg and Baba Indrajith who have recently done well in the domestic circuit.
