IPL comes with a host of opportunities for young unexplored talents to display themselves fit enough for the big stage. The franchises of the grand league are always in search for new players who might add an extra value and be the trump card for them.
This years Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy got see a bowler who might turn out to be the answer for franchises in search of a new ball Indian bowler, Vidwath Kaverappa. The 27-year-old bowler from Karnataka was their picking up wickets for his team throughout the tournament.
SMAT overview and current form
Kaverappa played in 8 matches in the tournament bowling 30.2 overs in them. He picked up 18 wickets in these matches at an impressive strike rate of 10.11. The biggest positive about his performance was the consistency with which he picked up the wickets. His best performance was against Jammu Kashmir where he picked 5 wickets for 11 runs.
Not only the strike rate, Kaverappa's strike rate was also very impressive in the tournament. He conceded runs at the rate of 6.36 runs per over which is way above par in the shortest format.
Kaverappa has translated his form from the SMAT to the Vijay Hazare trophy where he has picked up 7 wickets in 4 matches at an economy of just 3.84 and average of 18.14.
Kaverappa's current form of striking wickets early might be something the IPL franchises will like to make use of.
