Mike Hesson confirms Maxwell's availability for IPL 2023

They were gloomy clouds over Royal Challengers Bangalore when the star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell sustained a freak injury. With the retentions being days away, many anticipated that RCB may let go of the Australian maestro to free up their bank balance. However, it wasn't meant to be.
Earlier in the week, Maxwell fractured the fibula in his left leg when he slipped in the backyard. The injury ruled him out of cricket for at least a couple of months, but he will be playing in the Indian extravaganza - as confirmed by RCB's Director of Cricket Operations, Mike Hesson.
In a video uploaded by the franchise, Hesson talks about his team's core members - Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik, Rajat Padidar, Shabaz Ahmed, etc - and retentions that they announced on November 15.
"See there was a little bit of concern regarding Glenn Maxwell heading into the retention with his broken leg - but we certainly wish him a speedy recovery. And all the information that we have is he'll be back well before the IPL and playing cricket," the DoC expressed.
The former Black Caps head coach further stressed on the Australian maestro's skillset and what a player like him brings onto the table.
"A three-dimensional player (like Maxwell) is obviously critical in our squad," Hesson stated.
The 34-year-old cricketer last played for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2022, where he scored 118 runs at a strike rate of 161.64 and scalped 3 wickets with an economy of 6 RPO.
The all-rounder was also the part of the ODI squad that will be playing England at home, but he was later replaced by Sean Abbott. Maxwell has already started his rehabilitation, although it's still not certain by when he would return to cricket.
