Alice Capsey leads Melbourne Stars to a stunning win over Hobart Hurricanes

The 46th match of the Women's Big Bash League between the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes saw the former notch up their fourth win of the season. Powered by Alice Capsey's brilliant innings, the Stars chased down 131 in the last-over quite comfortably.

Despite this win, Melbourne remains in the sixth position, while Hobart consolidates their place in the third spot. 


Annabel Sutherland derails the Hurricanes' innings

Put into bat, the Hurricanes' innings were off to a rocky start, with Annabel Sutherland and Sasha Moloney claiming crucial wickets of Lizelle Lee and Migon du Preez.

Only Nicola Carey batted with determination and held one end up for her side. Despite getting a start, skipper Elyse Villani fell for 14, giving her wicket to Alice Capsey.

Carey made 31 off 33 before handing Sutherland her second wicket. Manix-Geeves scored an unbeaten 20, taking Hobart's score to a respectable 130 for 8 in 20 overs.

Sutherland claimed three wickets, while Moloney picked up two wickets. 


The 'Alice Capsey' Show

In reply, the Stars were off to a poor start, losing both their openers within the powerplay. Capsey along with Sutherland consolidated the innings, adding 48 runs between them. 

Carey claimed Sutherland for 25 and opened the floodgates for Hurricanes. A flurry of wickets saw Capsey take charge. 

She registered her first WBBL fifty in 39 balls. She slammed 14 out of the 17 runs in the 19th over, bringing her side to the cusp of a memorable win. The England opener remained unbeaten on 80, powering her side to a four-wicket victory.
