Despite having a formidable squad, India faltered in the T20 World Cup semifinal, suffering a crushing ten-wicket defeat to England. On the other hand, the Englishmen uplifted their performance following their shocking Super 12 defeat to Ireland and eventually became the champions.

Now, it's pretty evident that India are in transition while England have one of the most robust units in white-ball cricket. In such a scenario, many people tagging India as the favourites for the 2023 ODI World Cup has surprised many English pundits, including legendary former skipper Michael Vaughan.

In his column for the Daily Telegraph, Vaughan wrote that it doesn't make any sense to keep India favourites for the World Cup on home soil, insisting England will be the toughest team to beat in not only the mega event but also the coming years.

Here's what Vaughan wrote

"The next big ticket is to win the 50 over World Cup in India next year. They have good spin options and you have to put them down as favourites for that tournament as well. When the tournament starts people will have India as favourites on home soil. Utter nonsense. England will be the team to beat without any question and that is going to be the case for a few more years to come."

Meanwhile, India are slated to play three T20Is and ODIs against New Zealand from November 18 to 30. While Hardik Pandya will lead the side in T20Is, veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan will don the skipper's hat in the ODIs.
