England paceman David Willey has opted to withdraw from the upcoming season of the Big Bash League  (BBL) 2022-23. The bowling all-rounder was picked by the Sydney Thunder as their platinum choice in the first-ever BBL  Overseas Players Draft in August.

Both Willey and the Thunder have mutually agreed to part ways.

The 32-year-old was part of England's T20 World Cup 2022-winning campaign squad. The left-arm bowler will be seen in action against Australia in a three-match ODI series, starting November 17.

Willey has played in the BBL for the Perth Scorchers in four editions, picking up 26 wickets and scoring 631 runs.

In a club statement, Head of Thunder Andrew Gilchrist wished Willey well for his future and confirmed that the search for a replacement player is underway for BBL 12.

"David and his management have been tremendous to deal with. Sydney Thunder regrets David won’t be playing for us this season, but we wish him and his family all the very best for the future.

"We’ve started the process, but Sydney Thunder boasts some incredible players on this summer's roster."

According to several reports, the Northampton-born will not retained by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the 2023 season.
