Langer decodes Australia's failed campaign, calls 'chopping and changing' the main villain

Former Australian men's head coach, Justin Langer has openly criticised the current team management for over-doing things before the T20 World Cup - which led to hosts' failure to defend their title. He held "chopping and changing" responsible for Australia's dismal World Cup campaign.

The 51-year-old, while talking to sen.com.au, commented on the Aaron Finch-led side's failed campaign, where they were knocked out of the tournament in the Super 12 stage. He stated that giving people the opportunities is not the ideal way to prepare for a World Cup.

“Leading in, Australia were chopping and changing a bit, giving people the opportunities, not necessarily the right way to go about it but that’s just the way it worked out and giving some guys some rest," cited the former Test opener.

He also gave the winning mantra to the Australia team who will be playing an ODI series against the World Champions England - starting Thursday. 

“How I see it now is the England series is another huge opportunity for Cameron Green and Mitch Marsh, the all-rounders. They’re both destructive players, Glenn isn’t there, they’ll have to step up in the field. Australians have got a bit to think about, it’s a huge opportunity for those other guys," Langer opined. 

Langer, who was the chief in the Australian setup for almost four years helping them rebuild after the 'Sandpaper Gate', was removed from his duties earlier this year when the senior players complained of him being too strict. After his departure, Cricket Australia appointed Andrew McDonald as the head coach.
