Jos Buttler reacts as 'The Godfather of English cricket' David English passes away

Former English cricketer, David English, who is widely regarded as a godfather of England Cricket passed away on Saturday night.

David English played a key role in developing a number of England cricketers over the years, many of whom went on to win the World Cup for the country.

He was a former player for the Marleybone cricket club, and he was awarded CBE for his services to England cricket and charity. 

English is widely respected in the game and England captain Jos Buttler expressed his sadness at the passing of English on social media as he prepares to take on Pakistan in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday.

Buttler's tweeted read: "So sad to hear the news of David English passing away. One of life’s great characters, so fun to spend time with and producer of some of the best English cricketers through his wonderful Bunbury Festivals. RIP."

Eminent TV personalities like Gary Lineker and Piers Morgan also shared their grief-stricken reactions to the news.

It was English who set up the Banbury Cricket club and has nurtured players like Michael Vaughan, Andrew Flintoff and Joe Root. A report from Daily Mirror also adds that 10 of the 11 players who played in the 2019 ODI World Cup final were pupils at the Banbury Cricket club.
