T20 World Cup 2022: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav shortlisted for Player of the Tournament

Despite India crashing out of the T20 World Cup, there is some good news for the Indian fans. 

Star players, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have been shortlisted for the Player of the Tournament award, alongside seven other cricketers, as announced by International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday.

There have been quite a few notable performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup, and the caravan ends on Sunday when Pakistan take on England in a mouth-watering final.

The Player of the Tournament shortlisted candidates comprise of players who have done well for their respective teams and have won games on a consistent basis.

Apart from Suryakumar and Kohli, the other shortlisted players are Alex Hales, Shadab Khan, Sam Curran, Shaheen Afridi, Jos Buttler, Sikandar Raza, and Wanindu Hasaranga.

Kohli is the leading run-scorer of the T20 World Cup 2022 with 296 runs, at an astonishing average of 98.66. He recently surpassed Mahela Jaywardene as the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history and has performed consistently in the 6 matches that he has played.

If we talk about Surya, he has shown his class in the tournament. The dashing batter has churned out 239 runs in 6 matches, but most importantly he has scored at a strike-rate of 189.68. Currently he is the number 1 ranked T20I batter in the world.
