In a significant turn of events, Alex Hales crossed the 2000-run mark in T20Is during the second semifinal against India in Adelaide on Thursday.

The swashbuckling opener hammered a breathtaking 47-ball 86, helping England chase 168 without breaking a sweat. In this process, the stylish right-hander became only the third English player after Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler to enter the 2000-run club in the shortest format.

Most T20I runs for England

  •  Jos Buttler - 2576 Runs, Average: 34.81, Strike Rate: 144.15
  • Eoin Morgan - 2458 Runs, Average: 28.58, Strike Rate: 136.17
  • Alex Hales - 2073 Runs, Average: 31.40, Strike Rate: 138.47
  • Dawid Malan - 1748 Runs, Average: 38.84, Strike Rate: 135.71
  • Jason Roy - 1522 Runs, Average: 24.15, Strike Rate: 137.61

After exhibiting his consistency in the T20 leagues, Hales finally made his international comeback after a three-year-long hiatus during England's Pakistan tour just before the World Cup. Since then, he has been sensational, to say the least, slamming 429 runs at an incredible strike rate of 145.91. Despite getting a poor start to his World Cup campaign, the 33-year-old has peaked at the right time, emerging as a massive threat to Pakistan in the final.
