In the wake of Australia's crisis of finding a white-ball captain, former player and legend Ricky Ponting gave his verdict on the next leading man. Outgoing T20I captain Aaron Finch has left his role as the ODI captain but is still unsure of his T20I captaincy.

Ponting believes Glenn Maxwell is 'logical' choice for the leading role following Australia's exit from the T20 World Cup 2022. Finch also suffered from an injury that led to his exclusion from the team against Afghanistan in the Super 12 stage of the tournament, leaving his career in uncertainty.

What Ponting said

"He’s obviously done a fair bit in IPL and in BBL. I think that’s probably the logical one, 'I couldn’t see Pat Cummins wanting to take it [the captaincy] on. I was a little bit surprised he took the one-day stuff on to be honest as well just with workload and stuff and how many games he potentially misses, so maybe you look to Maxi [Glenn Maxwell]."

"I saw Mitchell Marsh last week had taken his name out. He said he wanted to play and not have to worry about it. I think in the current group, it probably would be Maxi."

Although veteran David Warner is a contender he isn't the likeliest of choices. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh has also taken his name out of contention, stating that he wants to focus on playing worry-free.
