In the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022, South Africa lost to Netherlands in an upset that led to the Proteas' exit from the tournament. The team was all set to qualify as they occupied the top spot in the points table, but a loss to the Dutch broke South Africa's momentum.

Later, Pakistan beat Bangladesh to top the chart as India had already qualified for the semi-final berth, sending the Proteas back to their home. A team that started out as one of the strongest alas exited on unfortunate terms. Cricket South Africa (CSA) expressed their disappointment of the exit.

CSA Director of Cricket, Enoch Nkwe, expressed his feelings

“The reality is that the Team did not perform to expectations, which occasioned this disappointing outcome. It is our duty to regroup and rebuild based on our glaring shortcomings at the T20 World Cup.”

CSA CEO also commented on the exit

“It is evidently hard for all of us to be faced with this disappointment. However, our focus should be rebuilding the team for future success. Lessons learnt from this experience will be inculcated into strategies to redeem from the weaknesses and build a formidable attack in future.”
