Pakistan trounced Bangladesh by five wickets in their last Super 12 contest in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday in Adelaide.

Thanks to the Netherlands, who registered a major upset against South Africa, beating them by 13 runs, Pakistan has qualified for the semifinal.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted a paltry total of 127 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Greens, in reply, gunned down the target in 18.1 overs to secure a berth in the semifinals.

Bangladesh won two matches out of the five they played in the league stage of the ongoing showpiece event and finished the tournament campaign in the fifth spot of the points table.

Reflecting on their tournament campaign, skipper Shakib Al Hasan said this was Bangladesh's best performance in the history of the T20 World Cup, but they could've done better.

Here's what Shakib Al Hasan said

“In terms of results, this is the best performance we had in the T20 World Cups. Could've done better. But having said that, with the new guys coming in, with the changes, this is the best we could expect,

"At the halfway stage we were 70 for 1. We wanted to get somewhere around 145-150 - would've been a reasonable total on that pitch. Knew it was going to be difficult for the new batters so wanted set batters to carry through to the end which didn't happen."

Shedding light on his own performance, Shakib admitted that his performance in the marquee event was also not up to the mark, however as long as he is fit, he is keen to give his best to the team.

"On my own performance - I could've done better. As long as I'm fit and performing, I'd love to play for my country. I'll try to play for Bangladesh for as many years as possible."
