In what could be an absolute shocker, the Netherlands handed South Africa a gut-wrenching 13-run defeat in the 40th game of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Adelaide. The Proteas were knocked out of the tournament with this horrendous defeat.

Batters' collective effort powers the Netherlands to 158

After being invited to bat first, the Netherlands were off to a flier, courtesy of a tremendous 58-run opening stand between Stephan Myburgh and Max O'Dowd. After Aiden Markram removed Myburgh for a composed 30-ball 37, O'Dowd and Tom Cooper added further 39 runs, before the former became the first victim of Keshav Maharaj.

Cooper also couldn't convert his brisk start into a big score, departing for an aggressive 19-ball 35. However, Colin Ackermann's counterattacking 26-ball 41* proved to be gold dust for the Dutch, propelling them to a fighting score of 158 in 20 overs.

Maharaj was South Africa's pick of the bowlers, scalping two wickets for 27 runs. Anrich Nortje and Aiden Markram equally shared the remaining two wickets.

South Africa collapse under pressure, yet again!

South Africa began the chase on a poor note, losing Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma cheaply inside six overs. Despite getting starts, their batters couldn't convert them into match-winning scores. As a result, there were frequent hiccups throughout the chase.

While Rilee Rossouw was dismissed by Brandon Glover for a 19-ball 25, Aiden Markram and David miller managed 17 runs each. Losing wickets in regular intervals eventually pushed South Africa to the corner. If that was not enough, Bas de Leede got rid of Heinrich Klaasen to hit the final nail in the coffin, as the Proteas were restricted to 145 in 20 overs.

Brandon Glover recorded a sensational three-for, emerging as the wrecker-in-chief for the Netherlands. Bas de Leede and Fred Klaasen were also instrumental with the ball and helped the Dutch create history.
