Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney.

The 31-year-old cricketer is not a part of Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup 2022 squad but he has travelled to Australia. Gunathilaka missed out on the World Cup owing to injury.

As per WAToday, the player was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning. Apparently, he has been charged with alleged sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman in Rose Bay earlier this week.

Reports state that the player was engaged in conversations with the woman through an online dating app for a few days before meeting up in person.

Police believe that the player assaulted the woman on the 2nd of November and he was arrested from a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney around 1am on Sunday.

The Sri Lankan cricketer has been lodged in the Sydney City Police Station and he has been charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

He has also been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have been eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2022 after a series of poor performances in the Super 12s.
