Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed a contempt plea at the Madras High Court against Indian Police Service (IPS) officer G Sampath Kumar for allegedly making remarks against the Supreme Court on the spot-fixing and betting scandal in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In his 2021 plea, the former Indian cricketer asked the court for intervention to restrain Sampath and others from making defamatory remarks against him, following which the Madras High Court gave an interim ultimatum regarding the same.

However, Sampath provided a written statement in December 2021, requesting the court to quash the defamation case against him. In the written statement, he stated that people were trying to pull him down by filing such a case against him.

Dhoni, in his plea, stated that Kumar's statement suggested that the decision to keep the report in sealed cover was planned, adding Kumar made accusations against the office of the advocate general and designated senior advocate of the Madras High Court in his statement.

Here's what Dhoni said in his plea

"I submit that the statements made by him [Kumar] in his additional written statement lowers the authority of the court and also has the effect of interfering and obstructing the administration of justice."
