Having lost 3 of their 5 encounters in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Afghanistan is out of the tournament. They have been a bit unlucky in the tournament as two of their matches were abandoned due to rain.

Though Afghanistan lost 3 of their matches they were good in bits and pieces and had their moments. They have to bow out of the tournament because the team lacked the experience to capture the moments when the matches were going towards them.

The Journey

In their first match Afghanistan lost against England by 5 wickets. This was followed by two matches which were abandoned due to rain.

The fact that Afghanistan was not able to take the field for a long time in the tournament, led to their lack of game time. As a result they only prevailed as a team with lot of promise but no real positive result.

In their second match they lost against Sri Lanka by 6 wickets, which was followed by a 4 runs defeat against Australia in their last match of the tournament.

Report Card

Rahmanullah Gurbaz- 4/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 68 Avg: 22.66 SR: 136.00

Rahmanullah Gurbaz had a mediocre tournament. Especially, if we speak of the expectations on him ahead of the tournament, we might term it as a little disappointing.

Usman Ghani- 3.5/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 59 Avg: 19.66 SR: 92.18

Usman Ghani played two steady knocks in the first two matches, but if the bigger aspect is considered the knock were of little significance.

Ibrahim Zadran- 4/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 80 Avg: 26.66 SR: 96.38

Ibrahim Zadran has been the highest run scorer for Afghanistan in the tournament. But the rate at which he scored the runs had a negative impact on the team's performance.

Gulbadin Naib- 4.5/10

Innings: 2 Runs: 51 Avg: 25.50 SR: 137.83

Overs: 4 Runs Conceded: 43 Economy: 10.75 Wickets: 0 Avg: -

He played fiery little cameo of 39 runs from 23 deliveries against Australia, in Afghanistan's last match of the tournament. His innings kept Afghanistan in the hunt for the chase but barring this innings Naib had an average tournament to say the least.

Mohammad Nabi- 2/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 17 Avg: 5.66 SR: 113.33

Overs: 6 Runs Conceded: 46 Economy: 7.66 Wickets: 1 Avg: 46

Mohammad Nabi's performance in all the aspects from batting, bowling to leading the team has been below par.

Najibullah Zadran- 1.5/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 31 Avg: 10.33 SR: 106.89

Najibullah Zadran is one of the mainstays of the Afghanistan batting order. The expectations on him were that he would carry the team's batting in most of the matches, but that did not happen.

Darwish Rasooli- 2.5/10

Innings: 1 Runs: 15 Avg: 15 SR: 115.38

Darwish Rasooli played just one match for the team. During his brief stay at the crease, it did not look like he could impact the game in a very big way.

Azmat Omarzai- 1/10

Innings: 2 Runs: 11 Avg: 5.50 SR: 110

Overs: 3.1 Runs Conceded: 28 Economy: 8.84 Wickets: 0 Avg: -

Azmat Omarzai got to play in two matches in the tournament, but he failed to leave an impression on the games in any given way.

Rashid Khan- 7/10

Innings: 3 Runs: 57 Avg: 28.50 SR: 178.12

Overs: 12 Runs Conceded: 77 Economy: 6.41 Wickets: 4 Avg: 19.25

Rashid Khan has been mostly a one man show for his team in the tournament. In the last match he scored 48 runs off 23 balls which kept their team in the hunt till the last moment. He also did pretty good with the ball in hand.

Naveen ul Haq- 6/10

Overs: 4 Runs Conceded: 21 Economy: 5.25 Wickets: 3 Avg: 7.00

Naveen ul Haq just played one match in the tournament. But he did a tremendous job in the match picking up 3 wickets for just 21 runs against Australia. His ratings are low only because of the low sample size.

Mujeeb ur Rahman- 6.5/10

Innings: 2 Runs: 1 Avg: 0.50 SR: 33.33

Overs: 12 Runs Conceded: 88 Economy: 7.33 Wickets: 4 Avg: 22.00

Mujeeb ur Rahman had been economical through out the tournament. But the kind of impact the team expected from him was not there.

Fazalhaq Farooqi- 5.5/10

Overs: 11.3 Runs Conceded: 75 Economy: 6.52 Wickets: 3 Avg: 25.00

Fazalhaq Farooqi has been economical but he has not struck enough wickets in the matches to put his team in a position of strength.

Hazratullah Zazai- 1/10

Innings: 1 Runs: 7 Avg: 7.00 SR: 41.17

Hazratullah Zazai played just one match in the tournament before being ruled out due to injury. But in the only match that he played his performance was way below par.

Farid Malik- 1/10

Overs: 2 Runs Conceded: 25 Economy: 12.50 Wickets: 0 Avg: -

He has played in only one match and has been very disappointing with the ball in that.
