Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Melbourne Renegades have announced the signing of West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell for the upcoming 2022-23 edition. Russell will come in as a cover for England's Liam Livingstone and will feature in the first four matches for the Renegades.

Russell played for the Melbourne-based club back in BBL 04, playing just four matches. Overall, in 24 BBL matches, the T20 Maverick has scored 379 runs and picked up 26 wickets.

The 34-year-old was a part of the Sydney Thunder when they lifted the BBL trophy in 2015-16 edition.

Russell, known for his power hitting and death overs bowling, has played 428 T20 games worldwide and scored 7,176 runs, which include two hundred and 27 half-centuries.

Russell on returning to Renegades

“I can’t wait to be part of the Big Bash League again this summer. I’m excited to be back in red and will be doing everything I can to help the Melbourne Renegades start the tournament with a bang,"

GM James Rosengarten on signing Russell

"Andre is one of the best T20 players in the world; he’s a proven match-winner and exactly the type of player we need. He adds to our team in all three facets of the game – his ability to clear the boundary, take wickets and make things happen in the field,"

The Nic Maddinson-captained side open their BBL 12 campaign on December 15 against the Brisbane Heat.
