Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has taken a swipe at the Pakistan captain Babar Azam for being a selfish leader.

Pakistan have had a dismal World Cup campaign so far and they were beaten by India and Zimbabwe before the win over the Netherlands.

Gambhir believes that Fakhar Zaman should be promoted up the order for Pakistan. He has urged the Pakistan captain to bat in the middle order in the upcoming matches. Previously, former Pakistan players have weighed in on the same and slammed Babar Azam

The former Indian star believes that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan continue to rack up the numbers while batting top of the order but it has not benefited the team as a whole. The Pakistan captain would be a better fit in the middle order given the pace of his innings.

As quoted by Hindustan Times, the former Indian World Cup winner said:

"In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team."

It will be interesting to see if Pakistan are willing to shuffle their batting order for the upcoming matches.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were heavily criticised for their sub-par strike rate during the Asia Cup 2022 as well.
