Australia picked up an important win over Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday but they could be set for a major injury blow for the rest of the tournament.

According to ICC's official website, Aaron Finch, Tim David and Marcus Stoinis are currently injury doubts for the remainder of the tournament and the trio are awaiting the result of scans to determine the true extent of damage.

Australia's World Cup campaign currently hangs in the balance and they have not made it to the semi finals yet. Losing three key players at this stage could as a massive blow for them.

Finch picked up a hamstring injury against Ireland and Australia will be hoping that it is not a serious issue and their captain is back in action soon.

Speaking on the matter, Finch said:

"I'll get a scan tomorrow. Unfortunately, I've had a history with them so we'll see how it goes.

"It doesn't feel too bad at the moment but generally overnight they can stiffen up.

"We'll get a scan and get the full results, but I am very hopeful (of playing against Afghanistan) but we'll know more (Tuesday)."

In the event, Aaron Finch is ruled out for a considerable period of time, Australia will look to bring in the likes of Steve Smith or Cameron Green. Smith has not been in the reckoning for the shortest format of the game for a while and he will be raring to prove himself if he gets a chance.

In terms of sheer quality, there is no doubt that Smith remains a top class player.

Finch has had a history of hamstring issues and the hosts will be waiting with bated breath to find out his fate.

Meanwhile, Australia will take on Afghanistan in their next game and they will look to boost their qualification hopes with a win.
