KL Rahul has been struggling to perform consistently in the T20 World Cup 2022. Peers and experts have found it difficult to pinpoint the reason for the batter's inconsistencies, claiming that there is nothing wrong with his technical game.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has opined on the matter and stated that it may be a case of mental struggle. He has stated that Rahul needs mental conditioning and that coach Paddy Upton needs to step up.

What Gavaskar said

"We have Paddy Upton as the mental conditioning coach and if he has not done anything with him. While the batting coach can tell him his mistakes, there is a need for the mental conditioning coach to talk with the player to increase his confidence. He should tell Rahul that he has got the talent and he can score big runs."

"Look, you have just played three matches and you have to play a total of 5 matches in the Super 12 stage. You do not have any other opener, I do not think you have an opener who can take the place of Rahul. So you need to show patience with him, we know what he can do when he is in full flow. I think some one needs to have a word with him,"

Rahul has only scored 4,9 and 9 in the World Cup so far. India lost to the Temba Bavuma led side. India's batting lineup dismissed cheaply, resulting in a humiliating loss. In order to reserve a berth in the semis India will need to win the next two matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
