In a remarkable turn of events, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli has completed 1000 runs in T20 World Cups. Kohli achieved this phenomenal feat during India's third Super 12 fixture against South Africa in Perth on Sunday. In this process, he became the first Indian batter to 1000 runs in T20 World Cup history.

Highest run-scorers for India in T20 World Cups

  • Virat Kohli - 1001 runs, average: 83.41
  •  Rohit Sharma - 919 runs, average: 36.76
  • Yuvraj Singh - 593 runs, average: 23.72
  • MS Dhoni - 529, average: 35.29
  • Gautam Gambhir - 524, average: 26

Coming at number three, Kohli got off the mark in grand style, smashing two gorgeous boundaries. However, he couldn't capitalise on the start, falling prey to Lungi Ngidi for 12 in the seventh over.

Since debuting against Zimbabwe in 2010, Kohli has gradually established himself as a vital cog in the Indian batting lineup.

The Delhi-born had a stellar Asia Cup 2022 campaign, amassing 276 runs at an incredible average of 92 and a blistering strike rate of 147.59. He has always emerged as India's saviour in the World Cups, but unfortunately, failed to fire against South Africa.

As of writing, India are reeling at 59 for five in 9.3 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav and Dinesh Karthik toiling hard in the middle.
