Jasprit Bumrah has been at the helm of India’s pace attack across all formats for the past few years. However, the speedster was ruled out of the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2022 owing to a back injury. While the cricketer made his return for India’s subsequent home series against Australia, he was once again dropped from the squad for the ongoing all-important T20 World Cup 2022 ‘Down Under’.

According to Australia’s pace legend Jeff Thomson, the Indian veteran needs to retire from one of the formats in order to prolong his international career.

Thomson says Jasprit Bumrah cannot play all formats for long

Jeff Thomson, who claimed 200 Test wickets for Australia in 51 matches, said Bumrah is bound to get injured from time to time because he plays all three formats for India.

Thomson says that it might be difficult for the seasoned Indian bowler to give up one of the limited-overs formats, because ICC has injected a tournament for the next several years. While speaking with PTI, he said:

“Bumrah puts too much weight on his body and because he plays all formats, he is bound to get injured. It is now upon him to decide what he wants to do.”

“In Test cricket, he needs to bowl 15 overs in a day. You can well understand which formats he needs to play to prolong his career. And with World Cups every year, white ball formats are no less important. It is up to him to decide how he can carry on to serve India for longer. This is a reasoned call and not an emotional call.”
