The eleventh Super 12 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup witnessed India thrash the Netherlands by 56-runs in Sydney. The Men in Blue dethroned South Africa to acquire the top spot in Group 2 points table with this astounding victory.

Top order fires as India race to 179

After opting to bat first, India got off to a poor start, losing out-of-form KL Rahul for nine in the third over. However, the legendary batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli steadied the ship for India, stitching a crucial 73-run stand for the second wicket.

Captain Rohit led from the front and hammered his way through to a counterattacking 39-ball 53 before getting dismissed by Fred Klaassen in the 12th over. On the other hand, Virat Kohli anchored the innings beautifully, slamming his second consecutive fifty of the tournament. Suryakumar also played a blistering cameo of 51 runs, powering India to 179 at the end of 20 overs.

Paul van Meekeren and Fred Klaassen were the only successful bowlers from the Dutch unit, each claiming one wicket.

Netherlands fall like a pack of cards

The Dutch began their chase on a poor note, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar cleaned up Vikramjit Singh in the third over. Max O'Dowd looked in a surreal touch but fell prey to Axar Patel before converting his start into a big score.

Although Bas de Leede and Colin Ackermann tried to resurrect the innings, their efforts were jolted by Axar Patel, who removed de Leede in the tenth over. Soon, Ackermann and Tom Cooper packed their bags for the dugout, leaving their team reeling at 63 for five.

The lower order came up with some handy contributions, but those could reduce the deficit as the Netherlands could post a paltry 123 in 20 overs.
