T20 World Cup 2022: Dropping Ashwin or Axar won't be fair, says Anil Kumble

India will play the Netherlands today in match 23 of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), with the threat of rain looming over. The Men in Blue won their opening match against Pakistan in a nail-biting finish, while the Dutch are coming off a close defeat against Bangladesh.

Former Indian player and coach Anil Kumble thinks that management will not make any changes to the squad and will play a settled eleven. Team India played both spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel on Sunday, and they leaked 44 runs without much success.

Kumble, speaking to ESPNcricinfo, stated that it would be unfair on the spinning duo if any of them were to be dropped. Yuzvendra Chahal could be roped in at SCG.

"I don't see any change happening in Sydney. I don't think it's fair on Ashwin or Axar. I don't think it's fair. If you're looking to make a change, perhaps it's bringing in Chahal for one of them. But I don't see that happening against the Netherlands. Unless there's an injury or a niggle, that could force the change."

Kumble further elaborated that he would continue to bowl Arshdeep Singh in the death overs, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami leading the charge in the first powerplay for India.
