Cricket Australia have had a tremulous few years off the field, dealing with players, coaches, and administrators. Much of the limelight ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was surrounding then-coach Justin Langer's upcoming tenure, who stepped down from his post in 2022.

CA offered Langer a six-month extension over the expected two-year deal, forcing the former opener to leave the national team. Former  Australian Test captain Tim Paine, who recently released his autobiography 'The Price Paid' lashed out at the governing board for its handling of the whole Langer saga.

Poorly handled, embarrassing and unprofessional: Paine

"The news came that they’d offered him a six-month contract. What the f**k? To add to the insult, it had been dragged out. Time was wasted. I’ll never back down from my opinion that it was poorly handled, embarrassing and unprofessional.

"I think they knew he wouldn’t accept it and then they wouldn’t have to sack him. It was the easy way out. It was upsetting to see a man who cared so much treated like that,"

Paine further revealed that some of the Australian players did not adhere to Langer's coaching methods and that CA asked him to speak to the coach about the same.
