The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling staging the Indian Premier League auctions in Istanbul, Turkey.

The auction is scheduled to take place on December 16, and the final decision on the venue will be announced in the first week of November.

According to the report on Cricbuzz, the authorities want to hold the auction overseas, and Istanbul has emerged as the top choice. The apex board along with the IPL committee are having active discussions with franchise executives over the last few days.

Before this development, Singapore was the host of a two-day annual workshop for the IPL franchises in 2013. Thereafter in 2016, the workshop could not take place in London due to the disagreement of franchises due to high expenses.

However, with the rising revenue, franchises have now reportedly given a green signal to an overseas option.

The BCCI officials have kept Bengaluru as the second choice for the auction venue. The workshop along with the whole auction can comprise a trip to Turkey for three/four days.

Furthermore, the franchises have to inform the IPL committees of the players they want to retain by November 15. The auction purse, which was 90 Crore last year, is likely to be increased to 95 Crores.

The 2023 season is slated to start from the third week of March and run till May end, with the participation of 10 teams.
