David Houghton furious after match went on despite 'unplayable' conditions

It turned out to be an anti-climatic ending when South Africa were robbed of a sure-shot victory against Zimbabwe in the Super 12 game, thanks to persistent rains. The Proteas would feel extremely unlucky as they were just a few runs short of the target when rain poured down again, but this time only to entirely abandon the match.

There wasn't just one person who was unhappy, apart from the South Africans, it was the coach of Zimbabwe, David Houghton, who was highly infuriated by the condition in which the match was going on.

Despite unsuitable weather circumstances, the match was continued in pursuit of getting a result, however, the rain gods had the last laugh. Houghton echoed his annoyance over decisions that were made on the field by umpires which, according to him, weren't encouraging.

What Houghton said after the match

"I don't think we should have even bowled a ball, to be fair. But the umpires are the guys making those decisions out in the middle, and they seemed to think it was fit to play. I disagree with them, but there's not much I can do off the field,"

Also, he termed the whole scenario as 'ridiculous' and made it clear that it wasn't a light drizzle at all.

"The rain had got so heavy at one stage, it was ridiculous. For most of the evening, it was misty with mizzle, but it got to the stage where we could hear it thumping on the roof in the dugout. To me, that's no longer mizzle and drizzle. That's time to get off the field."

Zimbabwe will feature in the next match against Pakistan on 27th October at Perth Stadium.
