English bowling star Chris Woakes is assured of making it through the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022 without any fitness issues. The 33-year-old has been dealing with a lot of problems lately, which did hamper his preparations and, infact, jeopardised his World Cup spot.

Previously, before the game against Afghanistan, the English side were said to be stressed about Woakes' availability, for which he was fortunately available after clearing the fitness test on the match day. Bowling four overs, he scalped a wicket and gave away 24 runs to help his side halt their opponents for just 112 runs.

Earlier this year, he suffered a knee injury for which he underwent surgery to only recover in time for the mega-event. His thigh and knee injuries have been a serious issue, but Woakes believes that he will be able to stay fit for the entirety of the tournament.

What Woakes said about his Fitness

During the conversation, he said that injuries are a part of it, and he is confident he can play an essential role for his side.

"But as a fast bowler, you are going to pick up niggles here and there, and rarely do guys bowl at 100 per cent.

"It's just with a muscle injury, you can make it worse, and with it being a relatively short tournament, you don't want it to get any worse. This was the game I was worried about coming too quickly."

Furthermore, he mentioned that he feels in a good place and would be available if chosen.

"Having got through four overs and fielding for 20 overs, and getting through my fitness test, I feel in a good place. Fingers crossed, if I'm selected, I'm available for all five (Super 12s group games)."

England will next face Ireland on 26th October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
