Zimbabwe and South Africa shared points due to a rain-curtailed encounter in Match 18 of the T20 World Cup 2022 at Hobart on Monday (October 24).

Zimbabwe posts a competitive total

The rain delay reduced to a 9-over-a-side contest. Opting to bat first, Zimbabwe had a disappointing start. The heroes of their last game, Craig Ervine (2) and Sikandar Raza (0) could not trouble the scores, while Sean Williams and Regis Chakabva failed as well.

As a result. the Chevrons were reeling at 19/4 in the fourth over. However, the pair of Wesley Madhevere and Milton Shumba weathered the storm, and stabilised the innings.

They added 60 runs in 32 balls for the fifth wicket to help Zimbabwe post a total of 79 on the board. Madhevere hit an unbeaten 35 off 18, while Shumba contributed 18 off 20. Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers with two scalps for Proteas.

In reply, Quinton de Kock slammed four boundaries and a six off the first over of the innings to give Proteas a blazing start. Another rain delay resulted in South Africa being given a target of 64 runs in seven overs.

Quinton continued his momentum to secure boundaries all over the park to pave way for South Africa to score 51 runs in three overs. However, the heavy rain again lashed out at Hobart, which saw the final outcome being ended as a no result.
